David Barringer MVO MBE is a highly experienced leader, strategic planner, and Musical Director, with a distinguished career in the military sector.
David’s extensive portfolio includes overseeing the musical direction and project management of some of the UK’s most significant state events, such as the State Funeral of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, for which he was awarded the MVO and the Coronation of King Charles III.
David joined the Army in September 1989 and studied at the Army Junior School of Music, Pirbright. He subsequently attended the Royal Military School of Music, Kneller Hall. He joined the Coldstream Guards Band in January 1993 and toured all over the World with them, including a three-month coast to coast tour of the United States and Canada. During his time with the band he developed an interest in brass band conducting and spent 2 years as Resident Conductor of the Flowers Brass Band. He then went on to represent Great Britain at the inaugural European Conductor of the Year competition in the year 2000.
With a deep expertise in leadership, strategic planning, and event management, David has proven his ability to drive complex projects from conception to completion, ensuring the highest standards of excellence in both military and civilian ceremonial events.
He is also a qualified change management practitioner and leadership coach, bringing a wealth of experience in optimising processes, improving business operations, and enhancing team performance.
In November 2019 he was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel and took up appointment as the youngest ever Principal Director of Music Army.
In 2022 he was appointed Commanding Officer of the Bands of the Household Division, and has since overseen all military music.
David’s passion for maximising talent and driving efficiency is reflected in his ongoing work. His contributions to the military and ceremonial music community, alongside his work in leadership coaching and change management, underscore his commitment to excellence and continuous improvement.
He was honored with the MBE for his exceptional service and dedication to his field.
