IBBSS News Team Announce our Distinguished Conducting Team for 2026 Course

IBBSS news is proud to announce its distinguished conducting faculty for the 2026 course, bringing together some of the most respected and dynamic figures in the brass band world.
Leading the 2026 Summer School will be Colonel David Barringer MVO MBE, who takes over as Course Director, succeeding a long tradition of musical excellence and leadership. Colonel Barringer’s distinguished career with the British Army and his renowned expertise in brass and wind ensemble direction make him an ideal figure to guide the next chapter of the IBBSS.
Joining him on the conducting team are three outstanding musicians representing both tradition and innovation in the brass band movement:
- Professor Nicholas Childs — long-time Course Director of the IBBSS faculty and one of the world’s most respected brass band conductors, continuing his invaluable role in coaching and leadership.
- Frank Renton — a celebrated veteran conductor, bbc broadcaster, and educator whose deep insight and charismatic teaching continues to inspire generations of musicians.
- Dr. Tom Davoren — representing the new generation of brass band leadership, Dr. Davoren brings fresh energy and creativity. In addition to his conducting role, he will lead a specialist composition masterclass, sharing his expertise as a composer of international repute.
This exceptional team will direct the various IBBSS ensembles throughout the week, offering participants an unparalleled educational and performance experience.
