Chris Turner

Chris Turner is a Cornet/Trumpet player with over 20 years of playing and teaching experience. Chris is Cornet Tutor for the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, a post he has held for the past 18 years.

He has also taught for Rhondda Cynon Taff and teaches for Gwent Music. Chris has played for some of the world’s finest Brass Bands including Black Dyke Band, Brighouse & Rastrick Band, The Cory Band and most recently The Grimethorpe Band. He has won all of the major Brass Band trophies whilst playing with these ensembles and has an understanding of what it takes to excel at all levels of competitive banding.
He has taught all over the world including New Zealand, America and, of course, the UK.

In his formative years Chris was lucky to have lessons from two fine brass players and teachers Andrew George and Tony Small and enjoyed playing in the various ensembles at West Glamorgan Music Service.

Chris studied the Trumpet at Trinity College London under Norman Burgess and at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama under John Millar, Paul Cosh and Anne McAneney. Whilst in New Zealand Chris played with the Auckland Philharmonic Orchestra and Dalewool Brass Band.
He has also had the benefit of learning from both Nick and Bob Childs and working closely with the renowned soloist and clinician, Roger Webster. Aside from his full-time teaching commitments, Chris has also had extensive experience of giving master classes in places as varied as Ireland and Switzerland.

Chris is a Geneva Instruments Ambassador playing on their Cardinal and Mentor Cornets and Symphony Soprano Cornet.
